The list of departures from the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball program continues to grow, as assistant coach Mike Mennenga has decided to take a job with the Creighton Bluejays, per John Canzano. He leaves alongside eight players that have entered the transfer portal, a group highlighted by point guard Jackson Shelstad and forward Kwame Evans Jr.
Mennenga was a key piece of the Ducks’ staff, as he coached alongside Dana Altman for the last 11 seasons. He specialized in player development and recruiting, with four Oregon standouts earning Conference Player of the Year honors with multiple consensus All-American selections.

He played a big part in recruiting the Canadian trio of Dillon Brooks, Chris Boucher and Dylan Ennis, who had strong runs as Ducks in making the Elite Eight in 2016 and Final Four in 2017.
Prior to his 11 seasons in Eugene, Mennenga spent time on the staffs at Iowa State, Providence and Canisius. He began his college coaching career in 1996 at the University of Maine, where the team set program records in wins during his four-year tenure. He played college basketball at Morehead State University.
While the departure of Mennenga may be overshadowed by the slew of Ducks entering the portal, as just one scholarship player in forward Sean Stewart remains, it can’t be understated the success that he had at Oregon and how much Mennenga will be missed as the program aims to turn around its luck after a 12-win season.
