Kentucky guard Collin Chandler is transferring to BYU

On November 10, 2021, 17-year-old Collin Chandler announced his commitment to play basketball at BYU.

Now, more than 1,600 days later and after both serving a full-time mission and spending two years at Kentucky, Chandler has again chosen the Cougars.

The former Wildcats guard is transferring to BYU, he announced Saturday via social media, becoming the Cougars’ first portal addition of the offseason.

As a sophomore this past season, Chandler averaged 9.7 points per game and shot 41% from 3-point range as Kentucky’s top deep shooter, making 46% of his shots from distance in SEC play as well.

He appeared in 66 contests during his time as a Wildcat, reaching the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 as a freshman and the round of 32 this year.

At the time of his high school commitment, Chandler was the highest-rated signee for the Cougars in the 247 Sports era, with the Farmington High product rating as a 4-star prospect and the No. 6 combo guard in his class.

However, once Mark Pope left BYU for Kentucky in April of 2024, Chandler — then in the final weeks of his Latter-day Saint mission — requested to be released from his letter of intent and subsequently followed Pope to Lexington.

But Chandler will now make his long-awaited arrival in Provo, where he’ll play alongside 5-star freshman forward Bruce Branch III as a dynamic duo for Kevin Young to build around.
