Penn State Basketball Forward Justin Houser Enters Transfer Portal

The mass exodus from Penn State’s men’s basketball program continued yesterday, as freshman forward Justin Houser became the latest Nittany Lion to announce that he is entering the transfer portal. The 7-foot Camp Hill, PA native was originally meant to redshirt this past season, but was forced into action midway through due to a pile-up of injuries, and ultimately made appearances in 18 games, averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. His most significant game action came on the road at Michigan in early February, in which he put up six points and two rebounds in 22 minutes.

Houser marks the seventh Nittany Lion to enter the portal, joining Dominick Stewart, Kayden Mingo, Freddie Dilione, Eli Rice, Mason Blackwood, and Melih Tunca. Add in Josh Reed graduating, and that gives us a total of eight open scholarship guys on the way out. Two of those scholarship spots have since been filled, but that still leaves six more remaining, and that’s assuming no other players enter the portal, which seems far from a given at this rate. Did I neglect to mention there’s a couple of vacant assistant coaching spots that need to be filled, as well?
