Texas F Nic Codie enters the NCAA transfer portal

For the first time since the NCAA transfer portal opened, the Texas Longhorns have suffered a departure with the entrance of forward Nic Codie after two seasons on the Forty Acres.

The 6’8, 220-pounder has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Codie signed with former head coach Rodney Terry out of Dallas Newman Smith as a member of the 2024 recruiting class, choosing Texas after taking official visits to Auburn, Houston, LSU, Miami, and TCU. Other schools to offer included Alabama, Arizona State, Cal, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Virginia Tech, among others. A consensus four-star prospect, Codie was ranked as the top player in Texas, the No. 10 power forward, and the No. 61 player overall, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

But Codie’s initial development on the Forty Acres was set back by a knee injury that ended his senior season after 14 games, forcing him to spend the offseason and preseason practice rehabilitating before missing the first four games of the 2024-25 season.

When Codie was able to make his return to the hardwood, he was an infrequent contributor in conference play with his only two baskets coming in five minutes during a blowout win over LSU in Baton Rouge, but he did flash his upside in a 20-point performance against UAPB on 8-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three, adding two rebounds and an assist.

And although Codie was the first player to announce his return to Texas to play for new head coach Sean Miller and gained 20 pounds of muscle over the offseason, he only reached double digits in scoring twice during the 2025-26 season and never replicated the success he achieved against UAPB, even against similarly overmatched opponents during non-conference play.

In the season opener, Codie was a surprise starter, remaining in the starting lineup for the first four games before he was relegated to the bench to start the Maui Invitational and didn’t appear at all in the third game, a ranked…
