Michigan Linked to Transfer Flory Bidunga After Winning National Championship

In his second season with Michigan, head coach Dusty May led the Wolverines to their second national championship in program history. While he and his staff have lots to celebrate, they’re now transitioning into the offseason.

Last offseason, May brought in four players through the transfer portal. That group of Yaxel Lendeborg (UAB), Morez Johnson Jr. (Illinois), Aday Mara (UCLA) and Elliot Cadeau (North Carolina) were the Wolverines’ four leading scorers this past season.

While replicating that success may be difficult, Michigan is already linked to some of the top players in this year’s cycle. On3’s Joe Tipton lists the Wolverines as one team to watch for former Kansas Jayhawks center Flory Bidunga.

“Flory Bidunga is the top center in the transfer portal,” Tipton wrote. “The former Kansas big man is the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Two early schools to watch are Michigan and Duke.”

In his sophomore season, Bidunga appeared in 35 games for the Jayhawks. He averaged 13.3 points (third on the team), nine rebounds (led the team) and 1.5 assists per game, all of which were career highs. He also shot 64% from the field.

Coming out of high school in the 2024 cycle, he was a four-star recruit, per Rivals Industry Rankings. He chose Kansas over the Wolverines, Duke Blue Devils and Auburn Tigers. Now back on the market, On3 ranks him as the No. 2 player and No. 1 center in the transfer portal.

Having two more years of eligibility, he is set to have several suitors to choose from. With the portal officially opening on Tuesday, Michigan is looking to add its first commitment. Landing a player like Bidunga would be a major splash.
