UCLA MBB Losing Veteran Guard to Transfer Portal

UCLA men’s basketball veteran guard Skyy Clark has reportedly entered the transfer portal. Clark has played the last two seasons of his career with the Bruins.

This will be Clark’s third time transferring in his career. He played his freshman season at Illinois then transferred to Louisville for one season before transferring again to UCLA as a junior in 2024.

Clark averaged 11.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and two assists in 28.6 minutes per game this season. He was a big piece of UCLA’s backcourt towards the end of the season alongside Trent Perry and Donovan Dent.

Dent, who was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection this season, is out of eligibility and will not return to UCLA next season. Meanwhile, Perry will be going into his junior season as the primary point guard for the Bruins.

UCLA will need to land another shooting guard to replace Clark through the transfer portal this offseason.

Why is Clark Transferring?

Even though Clark is entering the portal, it is not guaranteed that he will be eligible to play next season. Clark is petitioning for an NCAA waiver to grant him another year of eligibility.

Clark’s reasoning for the waiver is that he only played 13 games during his freshman season at Illinois. Clark chose to leave the team in the middle of the season to help care for his father, Kenny Clark, while he was dealing with a serious illness. Clark’s father died in May 2024.

When Clark initially began his petition for another year of eligibility, it seemed like his plan was to stay at UCLA for another season.
