North Carolina, Kentucky face most pressure in 2027 college basketball

The 2026 college basketball season is over. Attention immediately turns to the just-opened transfer portal and the start of the offseason. We have to wait and see what happens in the portal. One month from now, we will have a much better idea of which rosters are best positioned to make a run at the 2027 Final Four. At this early stage, however, we can say one thing in particular: North Carolina and Kentucky easily face the most pressure to deliver the goods next season.

North Carolina coaching change

It would have been reasonable for UNC basketball to retain Hubert Davis, given that Caleb Wilson’s injury really hampered the Tar Heels last season. North Carolina standards

Kentucky next season

Kentucky slipped to a 7 seed this past season. UK needs to at least get back to being a No. 3 or No. 4 seed for Cat fans to feel Mark Pope is on the right track.

Dollars don’t determine success

For all the people saying Michigan bought its national championship, hold the phone. Kentucky spent $22 million on last season’s roster, Carolina $14 million. Neither program did…
