The transfer portal has officially opened and we gathered up some thoughts on where Gerry McNamara should be focused in for next year’s Syracuse Orange.
What is the position or team need Syracuse needs to address the most in the portal?
Kevin: Syracuse needs a #1 scoring option. Ideally they’d be a PG or Forward, but they need someone that can be an 18-20 ppg scorer and be the player Gerry McNamara wants in late clock situations to make plays. I don’t think the addition of Mark Morano Mahmutovič changes that need.

Dom: Got the same pick as Kevin here. Look at the best teams across the country and usually, the common thread is having a top go-to perimeter guy who can score at all three levels consistently, hold up enough defensively, make plays for others and be *the option in crunch time.
Szuba: Syracuse’s biggest need is a high-level point guard. I think it starts there, and a solid center is second. The Orange staff will be able to round out this roster with guards who play off-ball and wings with various skillsets. But with Naithan George moving on and William Kyle graduating those are the two positions of need. They’ve also been the most in-demand positions in the portal, so they’ll come at a premium, although there are more point guards in the portal this year.
Augie: Center. In losing William Kyle, the Orange are left with Akir Souare as the current centers left on the roster. Kyle was a solid defender and could jump out of the gym, but his lack of height, and the team’s lack of height overall made it so difficult to rebound, especially on the offensive glass, and score inside the paint. The opposing centers in the ACC dominated the Orange, especially on the pick and roll when they could get a mismatch inside of the paint. So I think Coach McNamara must address the center position.
