Could Butler transfer portal entry be next Iowa basketball star?

Now that the men’s college basketball 14-day transfer portal window is open, the recent entry of Butler leading scorer Finley Bizjack could be exactly the type of player Ben McCollum and Iowa basketball need to spearhead the offense with Bennett Stirtz graduating this spring.

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound junior guard from Trophy Club, Texas, Bizjack powered the Thad Matta-led Bulldogs squad with 17.1 points, 2.5 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game on 42.6% shooting, 34.9% 3-point accuracy, and 85% from the free-throw line across 31 contests this past season.

Although the Bulldogs finished with a 16-16 overall record and 7-13 mark in Big East play, Bizjack’s stellar junior season earned him third-team All-Big East honors from the league’s coaches.

As previously mentioned, Iowa is losing the offensive production of graduating senior point guard Bennett Stirtz and would ideally like to bring in a similar player through the transfer portal to help lead the program next season.

Although matching the sensational play of Stirtz will be difficult to find, Bizjack would essentially be following the same scenario in terms of the expected offensive scoring role and amount of eligibility remaining.

Given his accolades, Iowa will certainly not be the only program vying to acquire the talented guard in the transfer portal, but he remains a highly-appealing option the Hawkeyes could lure to Iowa City, especially after their incredible March Madness run to the Elite Eight.

However, it is also worth noting that Bizjack reportedly will test the NBA draft process, which will likely delay his transfer portal decision based on his professional assessment.
