KENT — This looks like it will be the Kent State men’s basketball team’s biggest blow of the transfer portal era.
Delreccro Gillespie posted on Instagram on April 6 that he will enter the portal for his final year of eligibility. Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress also reported Gillespie’s decision earier in the day.

“My 4 years at Kent State has been nothing but love, learning, perseverance. and gratitude,” Gillespie wrote on Instagram. “I wanna thank everyone who has helped me become the player, person and student athlete I am today. I also wanna thank Coach Rob Senderoff and the entire coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play at such (a) great university. I also wanna give a shoutout to all my teammates and former teammates for always challenging me and believing in me to go out there and be the best version of myself.”

Gillespie led the nation in double-doubles this season with 22 in 34 games. The first team All-Mid-American Conference and All-MAC Defensive Team selection averaged 17.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks a game. His scoring average was almost 10 points higher than the previous season.
A 6-foot-8 forward, Gillespie averaged 9.4 points in 105 games (55 starts) over four seasons with the Golden Flashes. He was granted an extra year of eligibility because of an injury early in his career.
