UConn may be without key contributor for NCAA title game vs. Michigan

The UConn Huskies men’s basketball team is on a mission. Again.

After advancing to the Final Four on an improbable last-second shot, UConn took down the Illinois Fighting Illini, 71-62, in the national semifinal on Saturday, April 4.

The Huskies are in the NCAA Tournament title game for the third time in four years after winning championships in 2023 and 2024.

On Monday, April 6, UConn will face off against the Michigan Wolverines for the program’s seventh national title.

But on Sunday, ESPN broke the news that Huskies guard Solomon “Solo” Ball suffered a foot injury during Saturday’s game and will miss practice. His status for the title game is unclear.

According to ESPN, UConn head coach Dan Hurley said Ball, the team’s third-leading scorer, suffered “some type of a foot sprain.” Ball is in a walking boot, Hurley said.

Ball, a junior from Leesburg, Virginia, scored 13 points during Saturday’s victory over Illinois. He knocked down 3 of 7 3-point attempts and contributed two assists. Ball has scored in double figures in the past three UConn tournament games.

For the season, Ball started all 38 games for the Huskies. He is averaging 12.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Michigan, which is chasing the program’s second national championship, ousted fellow No. 1 seed Arizona, 91-73, in Saturday’s other national semifinal.

The Wolverines enter the title game as heavy favorites. DraftKings opened with Michigan as a 7.5-point favorite, per ESPN.

Monday’s NCAA Tournament title game begins at 8:49 p.m. ET. TBS, TNT and truTV will telecast the game, and it will be streamed across DIRECTV.
