A former top Alabama basketball recruiting target out of high school, Jasper Johnson will reportedly enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens, per On3’s Joe Tipton.
Johnson recently concluded his freshman season at Kentucky where the talented guard appeared in 35 total games off the Wildcats’ bench, averaging 12 minutes per game. As a freshman, Johnson averaged 4.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game on 40% shooting, as well as 34.1% from three and 88% at the free throw line.

Coming out of high school, Johnson was considered as the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. A five-star prospect, Johnson was also ranked as the nation’s No. 5 shooting guard last cycle.
Prior to committing to Kentucky in Sept. 2024, Johnson had previously narrowed down his list of finalists to five, a list which included Alabama. The Crimson Tide were among the five-star guard’s top programs coming out of high school, with the Crimson Tide joined by Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina in that group.
While obviously an unknown at the moment as to if Alabama would show interest in Johnson this time around, the five-star had the Crimson Tide among his top programs before, making the Kentucky transfer certainly a name to keep an eye on in the portal going forward.
