It’s not official, but it is all but certain that Thanksgiving this year will feature a dish of Spartans and Razorbacks on national television.
Earlier this week, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo revealed that the Spartans would play Arkansas on Thanksgiving at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The announcement from Izzo was somewhat surprising as the Spartans were expected to play at Arkansas this year as the second leg of a home-and-home series.

Well, Arkansas head coach John Calipari backed what Izzo said in a social media post on Thursday and added some additional context on a Spartans return trip to Fayetteville, Ark. Calipari confirmed Arkansas will play Michigan State on Thanksgiving on CBS, but also noted that Michigan “will return the home game to Bud Walton Arena” with a date still be to determined.
There was noticeable disappointment from Arkansas fans on social media when Izzo revealed the news of the Razorbacks heading to the Mitten State again this year instead of getting that notable home matchup. But this statement from Calipari should help quiet that disappointment from the Razorback fans — and some Spartans too that considered traveling for the fun road game. Now, when will this return trip to Arkansas take place? I would assume we see that come in 2027 now, but we will have to wait for an official announcement before we plan our trip to Fayetteville.
