Iowa PG Bennett Stirtz earns CBS Sports All-American honors

The Iowa Hawkeyes’ run to the Elite 8 and an incredibly successful campaign during the 2025-26 college basketball season would not have been possible without the impressive play all season long from point guard Bennett Stirtz.

In Ben McCollum’s first year as Iowa’s head coach, he brought Stirtz with him from Drake. The two blossomed instantly in their roles and led Iowa to a March Madness run that has ignited a flame in the Iowa basketball program and its fan support.

On the heels of being tabbed as one of the top transfers in all of college basketball this season, Bennett Stirtz has also received honors as part of the CBS Sports College Basketball All-American teams.

Iowa went on one of the most surprising runs of any team in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Hawkeyes reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1987. After stops at Northwest Missouri State and Drake under Ben McCollum, he followed his coach to the high-major level and proved he belonged and then some, averaging 19.8 points and 4.4 assists. – Cameron Salerno, CBS Sports

Bennett Stirtz earned a nod as a member of the CBS Sports All-American Third-Team alongside fellow Big Ten guard, Michigan State’s point guard, Jeremy Fears Jr. The Big Ten littered the teams with Purdue’s Braden Smith, Illinois’ Keaton Wagler, and Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg all dotting the first and second teams.
