Who is UConn coach Dan Hurley? He’s known for fiery antics and winning

UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley might not like game officials, even after his team wins tight games.

In Sunday’s March Madness Elite Eight matchup, UConn’s Braylon Mullins’ shot a game-winning 3 -point shot-point over Duke with 0.4 seconds left in the game.

UConn will now move onto the Final Four.

After Sunday’s game was over, Hurley could be seen saying something to game referee Roger Ayers, leading some sports pundits to criticize the behavior, with some even calling the move a head-butt.

Now, ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg is coming to Hurley’s defense, according to a USA TODAY Co report.

“That situation right there, that is absolutely nothing,” USA Today’s “For the Win” publication reported Greenberg saying. “I talked to Roger today. He said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He literally didn’t know what I was talking about. He said, ‘Nothing happened. The ball went in. I was running back. They were celebrating. Danny leaned in, said something to me. I said something to him. It was absolutely nothing.’”

But that wasn’t the first time Hurley has been under a microscope for erratic behavior.

About Dan Hurley

Dan Hurley hired by UConn in 2018 after stints as coach at the University of Rhode Island from 2012-2018 and Wagner College in New York from 2010-2012. He is the 19th head coach for the team.

During his seven years as coach, UConn won the 2023 and 2024 NCAA titles − the first back-to-back titles in the school’s history.

“Hurley played (college basketball) at St. Anthony’s along with his older brother Bobby – a two-time national champion at Duke widely considered the greatest point guard in NCAA history,” UConn wrote on a webpage about Hurley.

In seven seasons with the UConn Huskies, Hurley has earned a 165-69 record (.705) overall.
