Sean Jones & Tre Norman Enter The Transfer Portal

Officially, the transfer portal for men’s basketball doesn’t open up until the day after the national championship game. However, that doesn’t stop anyone from making an announcement or a declaration that they will be in the portal once it opens. It makes sense: Get the word out that you’re available, and no sense waiting until the moment things are officially official.

That’s why we received two bits of notable Marquette men’s basketball roster news on Tuesday. First, it was word that junior guard Tre Norman would be entering the transfer portal.

Then, in the afternoon, Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman got to make the announcement that redshirt junior guard Sean Jones would also be entering the portal.

Tre Norman appeared in 98 games for Marquette in the past three seasons. The former top 100 prospect never delivered on the scoring and playmaking efficiency promise he displayed on the EYBL circuit while in high school, and ultimately saw his minutes per game decline each of his three years in Milwaukee. He appeared in 30 games this past season, averaging a career best 2.2 points along with 1.4 rebounds per game in 8.2 minutes per night.

Sean Jones has had a rougher time of it than Norman for Marquette in the last four years in Milwaukee. Since debuting for Marquette with 13 minutes against Radford on November 7, 2022, Jones has only played in 57 games for head coach Shaka Smart. He missed three games with a wrist injury during his freshman season. After that, he blew his knee out in early January 2024 and missed the rest of that season as well as all of the next one. Jones made his first career start for Marquette this past season, standing on the floor for the opening tip against Albany back on November 3rd, but six days later he picked up a shoulder injury that cost him six more games. As of the first of the year, Jones had picked up a case of turf toe, and ultimately, he would never suit up for the Golden Eagles again.
