Former Belmont guard Tyler Lundblade commits to Tennessee

Rick Barnes and Tennessee picked up their first addition out of the transfer portal on Wednesday, grabbing a commitment from former Belmont guard Tyler Lundblade. This one was rumored since Belmont’s season wrapped up a few weeks ago, and it becomes official this afternoon.

Lundblade averaged more than 15 points per game for the Bruins, shooting 43 percent from three-point range this season. He made 219 three-pointers in the last two seasons for Belmont. The 6-5 guard has one final season of eligibility to use in Knoxville.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Lundblade began his career at SMU as a walk-on. He then transferred to TCU before ultimately landing at Belmont.

Lundblade led the nation in free throw percentage, shooting 93.4 percent from the stripe.

Tennessee is set to lose Ja’Kobi Gillespie and likely Nate Ament, so replacing some scoring will be a major key for Rick Barnes over the next few weeks. Today he lands one of the best shooters available in a move that seemed pretty obvious from the get-go.

The Volunteers will need to find another answer at point guard, along with finding some rim protection with Felix Okpara graduating. Amaree Abram has also exhausted all of his eligibility.
