The Nebraska Cornhuskers just concluded maybe the most successful men’s basketball season in school history.

If they want, they can add a 7-foot-9 guy to the roster to try to equal or better it next season.

For those unfamiliar, there’s only one 7-foot-9 player in college basketball: Olivier Rioux.

Rioux plans to enter the transfer portal, according to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman.

The Nebraska connection here isn’t random, though. On Rioux’s 247Sports recruiting page, there were only two high-major schools listed as having interest: Florida, where he ended up, and Nebraska.

The page clarifies that Rioux didn’t actually receive a scholarship offer from the Cornhuskers, but clearly their recruitment was active enough to be noted there.

At the time, Rioux was also recruited by Stetson, Florida Atlantic and Coastal Carolina, according to 247Sports.

Rioux spent two seasons with the Gators. He redshirted for last year’s national championship team, and he got into 11 games this season.

The big fella played a total of 16 minutes in 2025-26, making 3-of-6 field goals and 1-of-2 free throws for 7 points. He also had 6 rebounds, an assist, a turnover and two fouls.

Rioux isn’t necessarily mobile enough or strong enough to be a big-time contributor for a huge program. At the same time, you can’t teach height.

Maybe Nebraska would circle back and consider Rioux again, knowing at the very least that he’s had the chance to grow for two seasons in a very strong program.
