FSU basketball loses Martin Somerville, Shah Muhammad to transfer portal

Florida State’s men’s basketball roster continues to thin this offseason, with Martin Somerville and Shah Muhammad becoming the latest Seminoles to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Somerville, a sophomore guard, started 10 of FSU’s 33 games during 2025-26 season and averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The former UMass Lowell transfer completed his first season in Tallahassee after beginning his college career with the River Hawks.

Muhammad, a junior, appeared in 14 games and averaged 2.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.1 assists per contest. The 6-foot-11 forward previously played at UMass and Seton Hall before joining the Seminoles.

Florida State finished the season 18–15.

With Somerville and Muhammad planning to depart, AJ Swinton, Alier Maluk and Thomas Bassong are the only returning scholarship players currently on the roster. Freshman guard Cam Miles was the first Seminoles to enter the portal. The Seminoles are set to add five incoming freshmen as part of coach Luke Loucks’ 2026 recruiting class.

The NCAA men’s basketball transfer portal officially opens April 7.
