CHICAGO − Rick Barnes would have preferred if CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore was on the floor for Tennessee basketball’s Men’s NCAA Tournament Elite Eight game against Michigan at the United Center on March 29.
Towards the start of the No. 1 Wolverine’s 24-2 run, forward Yaxel Lendeborg finished a reverse layup through a foul. Michigan guard Roddy Gayle Jr. grabbed the rim while the ball was still in the cylinder.
The irate Tennessee coaching staff, headed by their head coach, pleaded with referees to call goaltending. The officials declined to review the play and allowed Lendeborg to shoot the free throw.
“That would have been offensive goaltending and should have been removed,” Steratore said about the play.

The No. 6 Vols (25-11) scored just two points during an eight-minute stretch. It’s the first time they’ve trailed by double digits in the NCAA Tournament.
