Duke guard Caleb Foster’s status is uncertain for Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup with St. John’s. Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer said he will be a game-time decision in Washington DC.

Foster, who is the starting point guard for the overall No. 1 seed, hasn’t played any of the postseason with a fractured foot suffered against North Carolina in the regular season finale.
According to Scheyer, the 6-foot-5 junior was slightly active in practice this week. But given how this injury has altered his movement, there is no real timetable on when he’ll be 100 percent. Right now, Duke’s staff is looking for progress with the injury.
“He’s going to give it everything he has to go tomorrow night,” Scheyer told reporters on Thursday.
Foster has averaged 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 40.2% from 3-point range. Without him in the lineup, Duke has thrown five-star freshman Cayden Boozer into the mix. The twin brother of Cam Boozer had 19 points and five assists in Duke’s first-round NCAA tournament win over Siena.

Duke faces St. John’s in the nation’s capital on Friday night (7:10 p.m. ET, CBS). The Blue Devils hold a 17-7 all-time series lead over St. John’s, with a 2-1 record in the NCAA Tournament.
The teams last met in 2019, and historically, a win against the Red Storm has been a precursor to success, with Duke defeating St. John’s during each of their five national championship seasons (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015).
