Colorado guard Isaiah Johnson plans to enter transfer portal

Colorado men’s basketball is reportedly set to lose a piece of the program’s future as star freshman Isaiah Johnson is planning to enter the transfer portal.

Johnson burst onto the scene with 24 points in the Buffs’ season opener against Montana State, which proved to be just a glimpse into a breakout year for him. The true freshman went on to lead Colorado in scoring, averaging 17 points per game, while shooting 49% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. Johnson ended the season as the most efficient scoring guard in the Big 12 Conference, earning an all-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Alongside guard Barrington Hargress, Johnson helped Colorado rebound from a 14-21 season a year ago to a winning season, going 17-15 this year.

Johnson’s best game as a Buff came in early March against the eventual Big 12 Conference winner, Arizona, where he notched 28 points through a career high four 3-pointers. The Campbell Hall grad broke the school’s record for scoring by a freshman and thrived when getting to the free-throw line.

While head coach Tad Boyle was able to rebuild from a disastrous 2024 season, it appears he’ll have another difficult offseason trying to replace Johnson’s ability to score.
