No. 9 Iowa pulled off the biggest upset so far during the 2026 edition of March Madness, stunning No. 1-seeded Florida on Sunday.
While the basketball world is still buzzing about the Hawkeyes unforeseen victory against the defending March Madness champions, Iowa swingman Tavion Banks felt like the team had the secret to success before the game ever started.

Banks thought conference play prepared Iowa well for their matchup with the Gators.
“We’re in the Big Ten. They’re in the SEC,” Banks pointed out. “I just know we’re more physical and after just watching the film and just seeing what they were doing, I just knew there was an opportunity to win the game.”
It was evident Iowa wasn’t going to back down from the Gators early on, as a tie-up between Alvaro Folgueiras and Alex Condon resulted in double technical fouls being assessed with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
Banks, Folgueiras and Cam Manyawu navigated foul trouble down the stretch as Iowa escaped with the thrilling win. Banks led the Hawkeyes in scoring with 20 points.
