The North Carolina Tar Heels’ men’s basketball season didn’t end as expected. Now, changes might be on the horizon.
After blowing a 19-point lead to the VCU Rams in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the biggest blown lead that the tournament has seen since 2018, the No. 6-seed Tar Heels are going home rather than moving on to face the No. 3-seed Illinois Fighting Illini. As a result, it could mean a change of leadership with the potential removal of head coach Hubert Davis.

In fact, according to UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham, there are many things that may change. On Saturday, Cunningham told CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein that they are currently “evaluating all aspects” of the program right now, hoping to identify what needs to change to ensure that the Tar Heels can get back to the upper echelon of the sport in short order.
This loss to VCU makes it so that North Carolina has failed to reach the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament in three out of the last four seasons.
There is not yet a timeline on when any potential changes could come, but the athletic department is working quickly to have discussions and make some decisions over the coming days.
