THREAD: Hoyas Done, Three BIG EAST Teams Play Friday

Your Georgetown Hoyas have officially entered the offseason following a hard-fought run in the Big East Tournament. The campaign concluded last Friday night at Madison Square Garden with a 67-51 loss to second-seeded UConn in the semifinals, leaving the Hoyas with a 16-18 overall record. For fans who enjoy following the transfer portal market, the offseason fun will begin soon.

Many of the Georgetown faithful have said there are clear reasons for optimism as Ed Cooley completes his third year at the helm. The current roster showed flashes of promise throughout the 2025-26 schedule.

Major contributors like Malik Mack, KJ Lewis, and Julius Halaifonua may be establishing a solid foundation, but it’s hard to say what any team’s roster will look like next year. Losing a defensive anchor in Vince Iwuchukwu will sting, unless he miraculously gets an extra year of eligibility.

Hoyas fans have heard Ed Cooley express his commitment to returning Georgetown to the NCAA tournament, pointing out that the team competed hard during their time in New York. The rebuilding process takes time, but the program is not widely viewed as taking the requisite steps forward yet.

The season has ended for Georgetown, but Friday brings a slate of NCAA Tournament action featuring conference rivals.

Three BIG EAST teams take the court today, two of which seem to have rebuilt quicker than GU.

Rooting for them means keeping the BIG EAST relevant and earning a bit of tournament money, but what good will that be if Georgetown doesn’t learn something from their experience.
