Perfect brackets are disappearing fast.
After a great first day of the men’s NCAA tournament on Thursday, plenty more Yahoo Sports users had their perfect brackets eliminated early on Friday as the opening round of the event continued. Just four games in, only 227 users were still undefeated.

The first game of the day did the most damage, which is only fitting considering it came with a wild buzzer-beater at the end of regulation. Kentucky’s Otega Oweh banked in a shot at the buzzer to force overtime, which eventually lifted the Wildcats past Santa Clara.
That cut the number of perfect brackets left nearly in half, and left us with 354. The next three games didn’t have any upsets, as Texas Tech, Arizona and Virginia all picked up wins, but those still brought the count down to 227.
We started the day with just 687 perfect brackets remaining after a massive day of upsets on Thursday. TCU’s win over Ohio State eliminated about 60% of users right off the bat, and then High Point’s upset win over Wisconsin and VCU’s overtime comeback against North Carolina helped cut that figure down to just 0.1% by the time the last wave of games started. Then, thanks largely to Saint Louis’ blowout win over Georgia and Texas beating AJ Dybantsa and BYU, less than 700 Yahoo Sports users entered the second day undefeated.

While the dream isn’t dead yet, brackets have been eliminated quickly this March. How many even make it into the second round this weekend remains to be seen.
