As No. 9 seed Iowa basketball (21-12, 10-10 Big Ten) opens its 2026 NCAA Tournament journey this evening with a first-round matchup against No. 8 seed Clemson (24-10, 12-6 ACC), the Hawkeyes will be facing a Tigers squad without their second-leading scorer, junior forward Carter Welling.
Welling, who averages 10.2 points per game on 49.3% shooting, suffered a torn ACL in Clemson’s March 11 ACC Tournament win over Wake Forest and is now out for the remainder of the season.

Similar to Welling, freshman guard Zac Foster is also listed as out against the Hawkeyes after tearing his ACL in a Dec. 17 win over South Carolina.
As for Iowa, its injury report has no new developments entering the tournament, as freshman guard Peyton McCollum’s known season-ending foot injury is the lone Hawkeye listed.
The Hawkeyes and Tigers’ first-round matchup is scheduled to tip off from Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Fla., at 5:50 p.m. CT, with the game being broadcast on TNT.
