Nick Boyd not named to any AP-All American teams

The Associated Press revealed their All-American first, second, and third teams on Tuesday, as the group of 61 voters gave their thoughts on the 15 best players in college basketball this season.

Freshmen headlined the AP All-American first-team, as Duke’s Cameron Boozer, Arkansas’s Darius Acuff Jr., BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg, and Texas Tech’s JT Toppin were nominated.

On the second team, the AP voted Iowa State’s Joshua Jefferson, Purdue’s Braden Smith, Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr., Illinois’s Keaton Wagler, and North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson.

As for the third team, the AP voted Houston’s Kingston Flemings, Alabama’s Labaron Philon Jr., Florida’s Thomas Haugh, Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson, and Gonzaga’s Graham Ike.

A notable name not mentioned? Wisconsin Badgers star Nick Boyd, who averaged 20.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds this season, while shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three.

Boyd, who was an All-Big Ten second-team selection, had a strong finish to the season, which included a career high of 38 points against the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. After the win, he seemed to jokingly take a jab at the voting, but the guard has publicly expressed his confidence in matching up with any guard in the country all season long.

In addition to not being listed on any of the three teams, Boyd was not listed as an Honorable Mention either, meaning he didn’t get any votes. The Honorable Mentions were Butler’s Michael Ajayi, Arizona’s Jaden Bradley, Arizona’s Brayden Burries, Florida’s Rueben Chinyelu, St. Johns’s Zuby Ejiofor, Kansas State’s PJ Haggerty, Stanford’s Ebuka Okorie, Kansas’s Darryn Peterson, Iowa’s Bennett Stirtz, Vanderbilt’s Tyler Tanner, and Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton.
