Social media reacts to UNC’s NCAA Tournament seeding

March Madness is officially here. On Selection Sunday, 64 college basketball programs watched their dreams come true.

UNC, losers of its past two games, is in the dance. Near the end of CBS Sports’ annual NCAA Tournament Selection Show, North Carolina learned it’ll be the South Region’s 6-seed. The Tar Heels will play the 11-seed, Atlantic 10 Champion VCU Rams on Thursday in Greenville, S.C.

VCU (24-7, 15-3 A-10) is one of the nation’s hottest teams, entering the Big Dance on a 6-game winning streak – and with just three losses in 2026. The Rams beat Dayton in the A-10 final earlier Sunday, 70-62, to clinch their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

VCU is a deep, defensive-minded team anchored by Terrence Hill Jr. (14.4 points per game), Lazar Djokovic (13.8) and Jadrian Tracey (10.0) on the scoresheet.

Even without Caleb Wilson, the Tar Heels (24-8, 12-6 ACC) earned their place in the NCAA Tournament. UNC showed its ability to win games throughout the season, even with additional injuries to Henri Veesaar and Seth Trimble.

Veesaar is still a top big man in the country, averaging nearly a double-double with 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Derek Dixon is proving himself as a viable scoring option, Trimble is the senior leader North Carolina needs, while guys like Luka Bogavac can provide 20 points on any given night.

The Tar Heels are no longer a National Championship favorite, but there’s still plenty of hope for NCAA Tournament success in Chapel Hill.
