B10 Tournament Championship Preview: Michigan and Purdue Round 2

It doesn’t get much better than this.

After meeting just once during the regular season, Michigan and Purdue will get their rematch in the Big Ten Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The game comes on the heels of two hard fought close wins for both teams who entered the seasons as favorites to win the conference.

After dominating the entire regular season and losing just once in Big Ten play, Michigan has found itself on the right side of some wild, close endings in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan’s 68-65 win over Wisconsin featured wild shot making late, some buzzer beater action, on the heels of a just dramatic first game victory over Ohio State to kick off the Big Ten Tournament for the one seed. It will now play its third game in three days against a Purdue team it handled, 91-80 in Mackey Arena earlier in the season.

For Purdue, it finally started to look again like the dominating, favored to win the conference team in its first two games of the tournament. Purdue decimated Northwestern and had full control of Nebraska in its Friday game on both ends of the floor. Against UCLA, despite injuries keeping Tyler Bilodeau out of the game entirely, and pulling Donovan Dent out of the game after ten minutes of play, Purdue needed all 40 minutes, a bunch of offensive rebounds from Oscar Cluff, and late game execution to take down UCLA 73-66.

Now, the most experienced team in the Big Ten will take on the most talented.

It’s Purdue-Michigan round two and this is as good as college basketball gets.

Will no rest decide the game?

Michigan will play its third straight game in three days.

Purdue will be playing its fourth straight game.

Purdue has the depth advantage over Michigan, particularly after Michigan lost LJ Cason for the season. Dusty May has shrunk his rotation to just 8 players while Purdue continues to get more and more from its bench.

No one for Purdue played more than 32 minutes against UCLA.

But it’s fair to…
