The Auburn Tigers picked up a first round win in the SEC Tournament against Mississippi State on Wednesday and will now turn their attention to the Tennessee Volunteers. The Tigers were down 10 points late in the first half against Mississippi State before a 7-0 run cut the lead to 3 points at halftime, 33-30. Guard Kevin Overton would lead Auburn with 22 points, and the Tigers had four players in double figures.
Auburn’s win over Mississippi State was a payback game after losing to the Bulldogs earlier in the season. The second round will be the same situation as the Tigers lost to the Volunteers 77-69. Auburn entered that game riding a four-game losing streak that included a win over the Florida Gators. The Volunteers’ loss was the game that started the Tigers’ late-season slide that put them on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.

Tennessee is the favorite entering the game to advance to the quarterfinals versus Vanderbilt. KenPom predicts the Volunteers will win the game 77-73 and only gives Auburn a 34% at victory. In the first meeting between the two teams on January 31st, Tennessee won in rebounding 46-30. They also won on the offensive glass with a 17-12 advantage. Auburn also shot way too many three-pointers in the game, with 31, and only made seven.
The Auburn Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers are scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off and the game will be broadcast by the SEC Network.
