Not everything went according to plan this year, but the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball program enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
Head coach Greg Gard is a huge part of their success, as many thought it would be incredibly hard to succeed after John Tonje’s departure.

Thankfully for the Badgers, assistant coach Sharif Chambliss has been this team’s rock. Chambliss deserves far more credit than he receives, and he was just honored by the conference. Chambliss was named the 2026 Howard Moore Assistant Coach of the Year. Chambliss has coached for a trio of Wisconsin schools, including UW-Platteville and UW-Milwaukee.
The Wisconsin native was named the No. 1 assistant coach in the Horizon League in 2020. This is the 16th season of his coaching career, and it’s important to note he also was a video coordinator for Wisconsin under Bo Ryan.
The conference highlighted Wisconsin’s 11.6 made three pointers per game, which puts them at No. 6 in the nation. Chambliss also helped lead them to not one, not two, but three road wins this season against an AP Top-15 opponent.
