Colorado freshman Isaiah Johnson earns multiple Big 12 honors

Colorado Buffaloes freshman guard Isaiah Johnson was named co-Big 12 Player of the Week and Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for March 2 through March 8. The 6-foot-1 freshman from Los Angeles has started 14 of Colorado’s 31 games this season and is averaging 17 points, three assists and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Johnson shares both honors with Baylor freshman guard Tounde Yessoufou. The two freshmen were also named to the Big 12 Starting Five for the week alongside BYU’s AJ Dybantsa and Rob Wright and Kansas’ Tre White.

In Colorado’s last two games, Johnson put together one of the best stretches of his freshman season. Against Utah, he logged 36 minutes and scored 22 points on 6 of 10 shooting while adding four assists, two rebounds and three steals. He followed that performance with 29 points against Arizona, shooting 50 percent from the field while contributing five assists and three rebounds. Across the two games, Johnson averaged 25 points per game, the best mark in the Big 12 during that stretch.

During the Arizona game, Johnson also became Colorado’s freshman single-season scoring leader. He passed Alec Burks’ previous mark of 512 points set during the 2009–10 season and now sits at 526 points with one game remaining.

Johnson is the first Colorado player to be named Big 12 Player of the Week since the Buffaloes rejoined the conference last year. The last Buffalo to earn the honor before that was Alec Burks in 2011, a stat that highlights just how special Johnson’s freshman season has been and what he could become moving forward.

Johnson also earned All-Big 12 honorable mention for the 2025–26 season, the conference announced. He currently ranks third in the Big 12 and 15th nationally in freshman scoring at 17 points per game. If that pace holds, he will become just the eighth freshman in program history to lead Colorado in scoring for a full season.
