Minnesota gets blized by Indiana 77-47

The Indiana Hoosiers rudely disposed of the Minnesota Gophers 77-47 in Bloomington on Wednesday night. The Gophers scored the first basket of the game on an Isaac Asuma driving layup and held that lead for 56 seconds before Indiana took the lead and cruised to the blowout win.

Sam Alexis led the way for the Hoosiers, scoring a season-high 23 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. The big man was 9/11 shooting and five of those nine baskets were dunks.

For the Gophers, Cade Tyson hit 21 points and he made three of his four three-point attempts.

THE STAT: There were a number of stats that were not kind to the Gophers. But this game comes down to making more baskets than your opponent and the Gophers were significantly outshot by the Hoosiers. Indiana’s field goal percentage for the game was 57% and 42% from three. Minnesota could not make their shots, shooting 32%, 24% from three.

TURNING POINT: Minnesota took that early lead before Indiana went on a 20-4 run in the first eight minutes of the game. But the Gophers managed to battle back and the game was still close throughout most of the first half. The Hoosiers were up seven, 33-26, with 1:47 left in the first half. But they closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 15-point lead into the break. And they never looked back.

HOT: Besides the entire Hoosier lineup? Alexis shooting 9/11 from the floor and scoring his highest total since his freshman season at Chattanooga was a nice night for him.

NOT: Asuma looked good, early in the game. He was attacking the rim and getting past the Hoosier defenders. But he also was 0/6 from three.

In addition to Asuma struggling to make threes, Langston Reynolds had a rough game. He finished with just five points and was often stymied at the rim by the Hoosier big men.

BAD MOVE: Indiana was well-prepared for the Gopher zone and they operated with peak efficiency, dicing up the Gopher defense and scoring at-will. As mentioned above, Alexis had five dunks last night, typically…
