Big Ten men’s basketball weekend scoreboard for February 27-March 1

Although the Big Ten regular season is coming to a close, that does not mean this conference will not deliver any upsets. This past weekend was full of competitive games and a couple that ended in dramatic fashion. Northwestern got its feel-good moment of the season, and the worst team in the Big Ten, Penn State, also was able to find a high note with a huge upset over Iowa.

No. 3 Michigan 84-70 vs No. 10 Illinois

Michigan claimed sole control of the Big Ten with its win over Illinois. Keaton Wagler put up a 23-point performance, but Michigan’s depth prevailed. Michigan had 3 of its starters put up at least 16 points and won the battle on the glass. Just another example for why the Wolverines are one of the best teams in the country because they can impose their will on teams with just as much talent like Illinois.

Penn State 71-69 vs Iowa

Penn State gets the huge upset as Josh Reed puts together an efficient, star-studded performance with 25 points. He was the best player on the court, outshining Hawkeye star Bennett Stirtz. Penn State still as a whole sank almost every attempt beyond the arc as they shot 60% from 3, propelling them to this upset.

Northwestern 63-62 vs Oregon

Nick Martinelli’s special season gets another special moment. The Senior forward dropped 22 points, had 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and sank the game-winning shot to help the Wildcats take down a formidable Oregon Ducks squad.

Minnesota 78-73 vs UCLA

The Minnesota Gophers stun the UCLA Bruins as Bobby Durkin has a career night with 23 points and drains 7 3-pointers. His fellow Gopher starters were right behind him as 2 of them also chipped in 21 points themselves. Tyler Bilodeau’s 32-point night takes a backseat in the upset loss for UCLA.

Wisconsin 90-73 vs Washington
