North Carolina shot 29-for-52 (55%) from the field and 8-for-20 (40%) from 3-point range. Star center Henri Veesaar led the way with 26 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field and 2-for-7 from 3-point range, along with seven rebounds, two assists and one block. Seth Trimble also continued his strong performance, scoring 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, with four assists, two rebounds and one steal.

A huge factor in the game was bench production. UNC outscored Virginia Tech 32-13 in bench points, as Jonathan Powell (15 points) and Zayden High (12 points) both scored in double figures off the bench.

Head coach Hubert Davis had a few things to say during his postgame press conference.

Jonathan Powell impacted the game in so many different ways tonight. What stood out to you?

“He was huge for us, just like you mentioned in a number of different areas. Obviously, his ability to shoot the basketball was needed; it was real tonight. Defensively, he’s a big guard, physical, and Virginia Tech’s offense has a lot of moving parts, and what is required is to get over, get through screens and guard, dribble-drive, defend without fouling, and then finish it with a rebound. And when you’ve got big, physical guards like Jonathan, that definitely helps. He played at a high level on both ends of the floor.”

Was there an emphasis at halftime to attack the basket?
