ESPN bracketology has Florida basketball steady ahead of March Madness

As March Madness quickly approaches, Florida basketball finds itself in a solid position in the NCAA Tournament outlooks with just four regular-season games remaining.

The major polls both concur that the Gators are one of the top teams in the nation, with both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 ranking the Orange and Blue at No. 7. Additionally, the NCAA Tournament selection committee has Todd Golden’s gang ranked inside the top 10 at No. 9.

So, where does the Orange and Blue stand in the latest major bracketologies? According to ESPN’s latest bracketology from Joe Lunardi, Florida is still a No. 3-seeded team now in the Midwest Region. There, the Gators are matched up with No. 14 East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the first round held in Tampa.

Compare that with USA TODAY Sports’ latest offering, which has UF as a No. 2 seed in the East.

Top seeds in ESPN’s 2026 bracketology update

The Duke Blue Devils are now the No. 1 overall seed in ESPN’s bracketology while also holding the top spot in the East. “There was always a certain inevitability to Duke’s rise to the No. 1 overall seed,” Lunardi admits.

They are joined by the usual suspects, with the Michigan Wolverines (Midwest), UConn Huskies (South) and Arizona Wildcats (West) still reigning over their regions.

SEC schools in ESPN’s 2026 bracketology update

The Southeastern Conference has the most member schools represented in ESPN’s bracketology with 11 — two more than the Big Ten, and three more than the ACC and Big 12.

Florida is the top team among those 11 SEC representatives with the No. 3 seed in the Midwest, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 4, East), the Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 5, Midwest) and the Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 5, South).
