COLUMBUS, OH – Wisconsin was already shorthanded without forward Austin Rapp in its Feb. 17 loss to Ohio State.
The Badgers became even more shorthanded when guard Jack Janicki suffered an injury.
Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said in his postgame press conference that he has “not officially” heard an update on Jack Janicki’s injury.

“I know it’s his wrist or his hand,” Gard said. “We’ll find out and learn more when we get back to Madison.”
Janicki finished with two points on 1-of-1 shooting, one rebound and one assist in 10 minutes before checking out for the last time at the 1:06 mark in the first half. He has held a key defensive role on the 2025-26 Badgers. Gard previously described him as a “catalyst” on that end of the floor.
Rapp was out with an illness, according to UW sports information. He was questionable on the pregame availability report and did make the trip with the team to Columbus. It was his second time missing a game with an illness in the month of January, as he also missed the Feb. 7 loss at Indiana with the flu.
Wisconsin guard Jack Janicki (5) attempts a three-point shot during the second half of their game Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Wisconsin beat Rutgers 96-87.
With Janicki and Rapp out, Wisconsin often went with a smaller lineup. That led to freshman guard Hayden Jones playing 16 minutes – the most for him since Dec. 22 in UW’s penultimate nonconference game against Central Michigan. Jones had six points on 3-of-4 shooting and four rebounds.

“I thought smaller was better for us,” Gard said. “I thought we had to play a little faster. So Hayden, shuttling in there, I thought did some good things for being thrown into the mix.”
