UNC basketball named the favorite for this five-star combo guard

With just one month left until Selection Sunday, the North Carolina Tar Heels are entering another very important week ahead with two road games.

UNC will face off against NC State on Tuesday and then Syracuse on Saturday. While a double-bye is still in range for the ACC Tournament, North Carolina needs to go on a win streak. But the future of the program is also important, and Tuesday could be a big day for that as well.

Five-star combo guard Dylan Mingo is set to make his decision on Tuesday morning, doing so live on ESPN. This will end his recruitment after months of teams pursuing him. Mingo is down to North Carolina, Washington, Baylor and Penn State. One team, however, is in the driver’s seat going into Tuesday’s decision.

On the latest episode of the 247Sports College Basketball Show, national basketball director Eric Bossi offered some important intel as to where things stand with Mingo and a favorite. Bossi noted that this is North Carolina’s recruitment to lose with under 24 hours left.

“This is UNC’s recruitment to lose,” Bossi said. “His announcement delays have been more of a logistics issue than indecisiveness on where he’ll end up.”

“The Mingo family isn’t super happy that it’s taken this long. Still, the 6-foot-5 combo guard is leaning towards North Carolina. I certainly wouldn’t worry just yet if I were a Tar Heels fan.”

That’s great news for the Tar Heels, especially since they hold the lone crystal ball prediction at the moment for Mingo going into decision day.

With Maximo Adams already signed, North Carolina’s 2026 class could get a huge boost on Tuesday if Mingo commits to the Tar Heels.
