Hasan Abdul Hakim misses third straight game for Memphis basketball

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Hasan Abdul Hakim has been out for Memphis basketball for more than a week.

The senior forward missed his third straight game Feb. 5 with what Tigers (10-11, 5-4 American Conference) coach Penny Hardaway called an unspecified illness.

Prior to tip-off at UAB, Hardaway told Dave Woloshin, the team’s radio play-by-play broadcaster, Abdul Hakim (6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game) did not make the trip with the team.

“We’ve heard from Hasan, but haven’t seen him,” Hardaway said. “We asked him to come in to do a check-up, but he was like he’s too ill to do that. We’ll just let (head athletic trainer) Darrell Turner, you know, handle that.”

This isn’t the first time Abdul Hakim has missed multiple games due to illness. An injury also delayed the start of the Texas-Rio Grande Valley transfer’s season. He has played just 13 of the team’s 22 games, making 10 starts.

Abdul Hakim did not play the final 15:40 of the game at Wichita State.
