Thursday Headlines: Kentucky beats Oklahoma, continues surge up SEC standings

Well, last night was fun!

Kentucky took care of business at home, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners by a score of 94-78. Otega Oweh once again showed out against his former team, dropping 24 points on the Sooners. The story of the night, however, was Brandon Garrison, who played by far his best game in a Kentucky uniform.

Garrison recorded his first double-double as a Wildcat, scoring a season-high 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Kentucky was able to gain control of the game late in the first half, and came out strong in the second half and the game was never really in doubt for the final 20 minutes.

With the win, Kentucky is now 7-3 in the SEC, something most probably didn’t see coming after starting 0-2 in conference play. In an SEC with no clear favorite, Kentucky is now just 0.5 game behind first place in the conference with Texas A&M and Florida tied for the lead at 7-2.

Again, probably not something many Kentucky fans expected to be able to say a month ago, but no complaints here.

Let’s be real though. Things are about to get pretty difficult for this Wildcats team starting with the matchup Saturday when Tennessee comes to Rupp Arena. The Vols will certainly have revenge on their mind, and that game will be big in the conference standings with Tennessee just behind Kentucky at 6-3 in conference play, and with Florida and Texas A&M facing off on Saturday as well.

Can Kentucky keep the momentum going and keep climbing the SEC standings?
