Where Arkansas basketball sits in March Madness bracketology after Kentucky loss

Arkansas basketball’s NCAA Tournament résumé remains a mixed bag as the calendar turns to February.

National experts still believe the No. 21 Razorbacks (16-6, 6-3 SEC) are nearly a lock to participate in this year’s March Madness, but time is running out on the Hogs’ chances of elevating into one of the tournament’s top seeds.

Arkansas is coming off a win over Oklahoma and a home loss to Kentucky last week. John Calipari’s squad erased a double-digit deficit to rally past the Sooners, but they couldn’t land a knockout punch in the second half of its defeat to the Wildcats.

With the NCAA Tournament now six weeks away, here are the latest Bracketology projections for the Razorbacks.

ESPN: Joe Lunardi says that the Razorbacks are a No. 6 seed in the South Region, giving them a first-round matchup with No. 11 Miami in Oklahoma City. The winner would go on to face No. 3 Nebraska or No. 14 Portland State in the Round of 32.

On3: James Fletcher III also projects the Hogs as a No. 6 seed going to Oklahoma City. Fletcher pegged the play-in winner between USC and Santa Clara as the 11-seed. Three-seed Iowa State Texas Tech and No. 14 Portland State make up the rest of the quadrant in the South Region.

USA TODAY Sports: A theme is developing as a group of writers with USA TODAY are also sending Arkansas to Oklahoma City as a No. 6 seed, handing the Hogs a first-round matchup with UCLA or Santa Clara. The other two teams in this East Region quadrant are No. 3 Nebraska and No. 14 Portland State.

The Athletic: Joe Rexrode is sending the Razorbacks to Portland, but he also has Arkansas as a No. 6 seed. In this projection, the Hogs would face Ohio State or Virginia Tech in the West Region, with the winner advancing to play Gonzaga or Portland State.
