The North Carolina Tar Heels are hoping to close out their 2026 basketball recruiting class with a big splash.
After landing a commitment from Maximo Adams back in November, North Carolina’s attention fully turned to five-star guard Dylan Mingo. He was on UNC’s campus for a visit in late 2025 and the Tar Heels are currently one of four finalists for Mingo, along with Penn State, Baylor, and Washington.

Mingo was reportedly supposed to announce his decision back in January, but postponed it. At the time, Baylor was the reported favorite to land him.
However, things have changed, and it’s good news for the Tar Heels.
On Monday, the 247Sports staff logged a crystal ball for Mingo to the Tar Heels. It’s the first crystal ball for UNC in this recruitment and comes just a few weeks after the Baylor crystal ball was removed. The confidence level is a 6 for the crystal ball.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Mingo hails from New York and plays at Long Island Lutheran. He is ranked No. 8 nationally, No. 3 combo guard, and No. 1 player in the state of New York per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

The crystal ball is no guarantee for the Tar Heels. And the way this recruitment has gone, nothing official until the papers are signed. But it’s certainly a good sign for UNC moving forward.
