‘Tigers of the Game’ from Auburn basketball’s win over Texas

Auburn basketball extended its win streak to four games on Wednesday with an 88-82 win over the visiting Texas Longhorns, but needed a massive second-half comeback to complete it.

Auburn jumped out to an early 5-3 lead, but was outscored 38-29 the rest of the first half to give the Longhorns a 41-34 lead at halftime. Texas led by as many as 10 points with 18:15 remaining in the game, but a 51-35 run by Auburn in the second half allowed them to complete the comeback and earn another win over an SEC foe.

Keyshawn Hall and Kevin Overton sparked Auburn’s second-half run by scoring 25 and 17 points, respectively, over the final 20 minutes. The duo combined to make 9-of-11 shots from the field and 19-of-22 from the free-throw line in the half. Auburn head coach Steven Pearl credited Hall and Overton for the major comeback effort.

“Coach (Mike) Burgomaster did a great job of just putting us in spaces where we can drive those guys, and they wouldn’t be able to help nearly as much. Key (Keyshawn Hall) and KO (Kevin Overton) had a lot of step-up in that second half and made a lot of really big shots. We did a really good job of attacking them and not looking for fouls and forcing them to foul us, leading us to go to the line 28 times in the second half and making 22 of them. I thought our guys hung in there, found a way to beat a really good Texas team.”

After the game, Auburn Wire’s writers and Auburn fans submitted their picks for Tiger of the Game from Auburn’s win over Texas. Here are the picks for the top players from the game.
