Already shorthanded and now without their leading scorer, the Minnesota Gophers went to Madison as big underdogs. But Wisconsin overcame a 22-point deficit and pulled out a 63-67 win.
Minnesota played a fantastic first half, holding Wisconsin to just 17 points and taking a 35-17 lead into the break. But the Badgers opened the half with a 22-2 run in the first 10 minutes and it was a dogfight from there. In the final minute, John Blackwell nailed a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to increase Wisconsin’s lead 61-64 and they held on to secure the win.

Wisconsin has won six of their last seven games, including two nail-biters over Minnesota.
THE STAT: Holding Wisconsin to just 17 points in the first half is an incredible number. Their points per possession in the first half was 0.53. But we knew the Badgers would make a run to get back into this game. In the second half, their ppp jumped to 1.63, which was aided by 9/15 shooting from three.
TURNING POINT: Cade Tyson was ruled out for this game on Tuesday. Minnesota’s chances of winning was already slim. When Tyson was out with an ankle injury, it was nearly zero. But to Minnesota’s credit, Niko Medved’s squad showed incredible fight and determination.
HOT: Isaac Asuma had a fantastic second half. Asuma started the game 0/5 from three and his team was leading by 14 at the time. At halftime he was 1/6 from three with three points. He started the second half with a turnover and two fouls in the first five minutes. He checked back into the game around the 12-minute mark and immediately made an impact. At that time, the Gophers had not scored in the first eight minutes of the second half and Wisconsin cut the lead down to five. Then Asuma goes 4/4 in a three minute span, making two field goals in the paint and two threes, sparking life back into the Gopher offense.
