Five stats that defined Auburn basketball’s midweek win over Texas

Auburn basketball picked up its fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday night by defeating Texas 88-82. Auburn’s 1-3 conference start seems like a distant memory now that the Tigers are 5-3 in the SEC, and 14-7 overall.

The win did not come easily for the Tigers. The Longhorns built a 14-point lead in the first half and were 8-of-14 from three-point land in the first 20 minutes. This was also a big win for Auburn with what is coming next on the schedule. Auburn will travel to Tennessee on Saturday and will host Alabama on Feb. 7.

It has been well documented that Auburn has not shot the ball well from the three-point line lately. Coming into the game, the Tigers were shooting just 27% in SEC games. That was not the case versus the Texas Longhorns. Auburn was 11-of-21 from three-point territory, shooting 52%.

With the Tigers down 42-34 at halftime, Keyshawn Hall only had five points in the game. It was not that he was struggling with his shot. Texas did a great job of not letting him get many touches. It was a different story in the second half. Hall scored 25 of his 31 points in the second half. That included going 11-of-14 at the free-throw line.

Once they fell to a man, it’s a one-on-one game after that, and once it is one-on-one, it is kind of hard to stop us.”

Kevin Overton’s perfect second half

As great as Hall is, he cannot do it alone. He had help in a big way on Wednesday night with 25 points from Kevin Overton. He scored eight points in the first half, but he was perfect in shooting the ball in the…
