College basketball: Week 13 coaches poll released for men’s basketball

The calendar has turned to late January, and the road to March Madness is finally starting to pave itself with contenders, pretenders, and perfection. Week 13 of the Coaches Poll gives us a landscape defined by dominance at the top and absolute chaos in the middle, as conference play separates the elite from the pack. While the usual blue bloods are flexing their muscles, we have a few undefeated disruptors, including a shocking entry at the bottom of the list, refusing to blink as the pressure mounts.

Sitting at 14-5, they’ve done just enough to catch the coaches’ eyes, likely buoyed by the brutal strength of the Big Ten schedule. They are living on the edge, but for this week, Iowa has a number next to their name and a chance to climb.

This is the single most intriguing storyline at the bottom of the poll: a perfect 20-0 record, yet barely hanging onto the 25th spot. The Redhawks are getting the classic “mid-major disrespect” treatment, but you simply cannot argue with perfection this late in the season. They are the only team in the country with 20 wins getting treated like a bubble team, which puts a massive chip on their shoulder moving forward.
