No. 5 Nebraska (20-1, 9-1) remained on the road Tuesday night for its biggest showdown of the season at No. 2 Michigan (19-1, 9-1). After holding the lead for most of the night, the Huskers fell late to the Wolverines 75-72, suffering their first loss of the season.
The Huskers held an 11-point lead partway through the first, scoring 50 points in the opening half. But Michigan scored 48 in the first and then held Nebraska to 22 points in the second half. Despite Nebraska holding the Wolverines to 6-of-24 from the floor in the second half, the Huskers coughed up 19 fouls in the game, allowing for Michigan to shoot 19-of-23 from the free throw line. Nebraska, meanwhile, finished 3-of-4 from the line.

This was a key factor in the Huskers’ second-half fall, which negated the team’s solid floor performance. Nebraska finished 29-of-63 in total and 11-of-32 from three-point range. The Wolverines shot 25-of-53 and 6-of-26, respectively.
Jamarques Lawrence and Pryce Sandfort combined for 40 points in the loss, 30 of which came in the opening half. Each pitched in 20 points and contributed nine of the Huskers’ 11 made threes. Lawrence shot 8-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Sandfort hit all of Nebraska’s free throws and finished 6-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-16 from three-point range. Sam Hoiberg tallied 13 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and led the team in rebounds with seven.
Nebraska played without two of its best players for the top-five matchup, with Rienk Mast out with an illness and Braden Frager out with an injury. Regardless, this ends Nebraska’s 24-game winning streak, which started last season.
The Huskers, however, continue their best start to a season in program history in February when they return home for their next game against No. 10 Illinois. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on Sunday on FS1.
