Boston College will look to pick up its third conference win on the bounce when they take on Notre Dame in South Bend tonight.

The Eagles are coming off easily their two best wins of the season, after knocking off Syracuse in overtime and Pitt this past weekend. Fred Payne has emerged as the unquestioned number one option for BC, and he is hooping right now. Over his last five games, he’s averaging 22 points and 3.8 assists in 48.1% shooting from the floor and 53.3% from three.

Notre Dame limps into this matchup, having lost five straight — including a 91-69 blowout at the hands of North Carolina last time out. Micah Shrewsberry’s third season at the helm has been derailed by the loss of star guard Markus Burton. Burton — who has averaged 19.1 points and 3.8 assists per game in his 3-year career — went down with an ankle injury in early December, and does not have a timetable for his return. In his place, five-star freshman Jalen Haralson has become the Irish’s go-to piece on offense, leading the Irish at 14.6 points per game. With only Haralson and Braeden Shresberry (10.6 PPG) averaging in double figures, the Irish want to play at a controlled tempo and turn the game into a rock fight. BC generally does the same thing, so expect to see a tight game that will come down to execution on 3-5 possessions.

With Notre Dame desperately in need of a win and at home, I think they edge the Eagles in this one — but it will be close.
