Where Wisconsin stands in Big Ten, bracket projections after four straight wins

Wisconsin men’s basketball had a pivotal stretch of games to start January.

The Badgers’ loss to then-No. 6 Purdue was a (missed) Quad 1 opportunity, and the win against UCLA was a Quad 2 win. UW’s 91-88 win over then-No. 1 Michigan gave the Badgers their first Quad 1 win of the season.

Now, the Badgers are in a stretch of the schedule where they are beating teams that they’re supposed to beat. Wisconsin’s last opponent, Rutgers, is No. 154 in the NCAA’s NET rankings. UW’s opponent before that, Minnesota, is No. 85 in NET. Penn State, UW’s next opponent, is No. 114.

Those wins will not do much to move the needle either way for Wisconsin’s postseason résumé, but here is a closer look at where the Badgers stand in the Big Ten and in March Madness projections:

Wisconsin’s 5-2 conference record puts the Badgers in sixth place in the Big Ten, trailing Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Illinois. The two Big Ten teams to defeat the Badgers – Nebraska and Purdue – are a combined 14-1 in conference play.

Where is Wisconsin in latest NET rankings?

Wisconsin is No. 39 in the NCAA’s NET rankings after games completed on Jan. 20. That is one spot below where the Badgers were one week earlier.

Wisconsin’s NET ranking is ninth-best in the Big Ten, trailing Michigan at No. 1, Purdue at No. 5, Nebraska at No. 7, Illinois at No. 8, Michigan State at No. 11, Iowa at No. 21, Ohio State at No. 36 and Indiana at No. 37.
